Kathmandu, Nepal’s vibrant capital, has been ranked as the second-best solo travel destination in the world by TripAdvisor, one of the leading global travel platforms. The city also secured the seventh spot in the ‘Cultural Destinations’ category, highlighting its rich heritage and unique travel experiences.
TripAdvisor’s ‘Most Visited Destinations of 2025’ list was compiled based on traveler reviews and recommendations from around the world. The newly introduced ‘Solo Travel Destinations’ category ranked Seoul, South Korea, as the top choice, followed by Kathmandu in second place.

Kathmandu also secured the seventh position in the ‘Cultural Destinations’ category. The top cultural destination was Bali, Indonesia, followed by Hanoi, Vietnam, and London, UK in second and third place, respectively. Neighboring New Delhi, India, ranked eighth in the list.
Kathmandu’s recognition as a top cultural destination is a testament to its historical sites, vibrant local life, and deep-rooted traditions. With seven UNESCO World Heritage Sites, including Kathmandu Durbar Square, Swayambhunath Stupa, and Pashupatinath Temple, the city remains a hub for history and spirituality.
Kathmandu’s Growing Tourism Appeal
The recognition of Kathmandu as a top solo and cultural travel destination is expected to attract more international tourists. In 2024, Nepal welcomed over 1.14 million tourists, a 13.1% increase from the previous year, with most visitors spending time in Kathmandu.
